What We Have Been Up To: New Baby Edition 3/16/18

me and baby nuggetBaby Boy Nugget has been with us for almost three weeks now.    I am afraid to say too much about how we are faring with a toddler and a newborn because I am superstitious and do not want to tempt fate but I would say we are things are so far so good.

Hubby* has back to work since last Friday which means it has now been a full work week that I have been home with both of the boys.  My in-laws are scheduled to come over today for a visit, but besides that it has been me and the boys finding our way during the day.
[As a side note: I need some suggestions of a blogging nickname for my husband.  If you have any ideas, please reply in the comment section of this blog]

I wanted this time alone with the boys after my husband returned to work so I could work on figuring out how our days would play out with just one parent at home.  I had fears that I would not be able to leave Baby Nugget in a room alone with Mr. Man but thus far Mr. Man has proved to be trustworthy.  I also don’t leave Mr. Man alone in a room with Baby Nugget for very long.

So far Mr. Man seems to like Baby Nugget.  The one thing I have to watch out for is that Mr. Man can be a little too enthusiastic in giving Baby Nugget affection.  He likes to hug Baby Nugget a little too hard or squeeze his hands too hard.  I like that he likes his little brother but I also don’t want him to hurt Baby Nugget.

The weather here has been a bit on the cool side and windy so we haven’t been going outside as much as I would like.  I think Mr. Man might not be getting enough time to burn off energy because I can sometimes hear him talking to himself in his crib at 9:00 at night.  Though I think the recent change to Daylight Savings Time has something to do with that.

So what have we been up to on days where Hubby goes to work?

  1.  We watch too much children’s television.  Mr. Man likes to watch Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Sesame Street, Curious George and Cauillou on television.  We have a Roku and subscribe to Netflix and .  We downloaded the PBS Kids App on the Roku so we always have those shows on the ready.  It makes life easier when I am feeding Baby Nugget or getting meals ready.  I have a certain amount of guilt about the amount of TV Mr. Man is watching but at the same time I don’t know if I have the energy to keep him constantly entertained while I am working on non-Mr. Man related life tasks. Thank goodness for PBS!
  2. Today we went to the library just Baby Nugget, Mr. Man and Me.  It was kind of chaotic when it was time to leave because Baby Nugget was hungry and Mr. Man did not want to stay by my side while we checked out our books.  Plus the library installed new computers for self check out and they are really pushing customers to use them.  It is hard to do when you are there with two small children.  I think next time I will just go up to the counter and ask for help.  I am proud of us anyway.  We did it.  [On a side note: I think I am going to start lying when people ask me how old my baby is because I get the impression that they are judging me for taking a young baby out in public.  He is large for his age so I might tell people he is one month old or maybe even two months old.  They won’t remember how big a two month old is I think.]
  3. I have been watching a lot of television for grownups when Mr. Man is sleeping.  Feeding a baby is a great activity to do in front of the TV (when you are not busy staring at the baby).  I have watched more TV in the past two weeks than I think I have watched in the previous 3 months.
Here is what I have been watching when Mr. Man is asleep:

      1.   The Bachelor: But only the Season Finale and After the Final Rose (which was at least 5 hours of televsion, it took me all week to get through it)
      2.  Friends From College: On Netflix.  I thought about watching this for the past 8 months since it premiered on Netflix. I originally thought the characters seemed unlikeable but I took the plunge anyway. Hubbie and I have shows we watch together and show we watch apart so I didn’t want to dive into our stash of “together shows” when he was at work.
      3. SNL: The SNL cold open from the Sterling K. Brown episode made we want to watch The Bachelor’s season finale.  The cold open from last week was pretty funny I thought.
      4. The X Files Season 11: I was a huge fan of The X Files from like 1993-1998, then while at college I stopped watching it so much, then I stopped watching it all together.  I watched Season 10 when they brought it back in 2016 and enjoyed the non-conspiracy related episodes. I thought I would watch Season 11 which came back in January and is available on Hulu  I am having trouble though it.  This first episode seems almost unwatchable to me.  Mulder keeps having these crazy car chase scenes that seem out of place in The X-Files.  The X-Files used to seem so low budget and that was part of it’s charm. The X-Files seems like it belongs in the 1990’s and the new technology and high speed car chases in fancy cars don’t fit the asthetic.  Plus the episode I saw was conspiracy relatated which I am bored with at this point.  Bring on the Freak of the Week episodes and I will be a happy girl.

What do you think Hubby’s Nickname should be?

How was your week?
