Celebrating My First Blogiversary With Another Bathroom Tourism Post

Hi All, I am celebrating my first Blogiversary with a post reminiscent of where it all began.  Last year, on May 22, 2017 I went live with my blog for the first time.  Up until that day,  I wrote privately and not very often.  On that day I decided to take a leap and make it public and I was over whelmed with all of your support.  A few days later, I wrote a post about the bathrooms at the Quakertown Walmart and I became even more encouraged to keep writing because it was a very popular post.

I want to revisit the subject of awesome or unexpectedly good bathrooms because I really do appreciate a great public bathrooom.

Today’s subject is the bathrooms at ZooAmerica, which is the zoo that is attached to Hershey Park.  Visitors can visit ZooAmerica with their Hershey Park admission or come from the outside the park.  The zoo is open even when the park is closed.  The whole family (me, Mr. Katie, Mr. Man and Baby Nugget) visited the ZooAmerica  about a week and a half ago to celebrate  our (Me and Mr. Katie’s) wedding anniversary.

We love zoos and because we have a membership to our local zoo and our local zoo participates in Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) program we get free or reduced admission to participating zoos across the country.  We also love  ZooAmerica because it focuses on animals found in North America.  It is also a small and very manageable size and after we visit the zoo we usually take in Chocolate World before we head home.

Hershey is also only about an hour and a half drive from where we live so it can be a nice day trip.  It is far enough away to make you feel like you are away from your town but close enough that the drive home isn’t too long.  Also there are a lot of restaurants and things to do in the area.  If you are in the area you really must check out Hershey, PA.  As a side note, my husband and I have been to a few touring productions of musicals at the Hershey  Theatre over the  years.  We saw the Green Day musical American Idiot there and Avenue Q.  They were the same touring companies that came to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh but I believe the tickets might have been less expensive in Hershey and the parking is free (added bonus!)

Now about the bathrooms at ZooAmerica- I would not say that the bathrooms were swanky but they did have a few advantages.

  1. Location, location, location.  They were located right next to a seating area with umbrellas for shade.  This was an advantage for me because I sat under the umbrellas to feed my baby.  Then when he needed to be changed I left my stroller in the seating area and went right over to the bathrooms to use the changing table.
  2. Restrooms for all!  There was a men’s room, a ladies room, and a family restroom.  Many people remarked to me on facebook about how they applauded places with family restrooms.  I agree, I know that as my son’s get older I will appreciate a restroom that the whole family can feel comfortable going into together.
  3. High Changing Table.   For me, this was the number one thing I appreciated about the bathrooms.  I am tall-ish and I have noticed that many public bathroom changing tables are extremely low to the ground.  I understand this is to meet the needs of all people who might be changing diapers but these low changing table are killing my back.  My sons are heavy and putting them down and picking them up from the height of normal public restroom changing table hurts my back.  I often prefer to change their diapers from the back of the van when we are out rather than use a low to the ground changing table.  I was very excited when I saw how high off the ground these table were.  Below is a picture of Baby Nugget on the changing table at ZooAmerica.

Well, that is all for now.  ZooAmerica could have the slogan “Come for the Animals, Stay for the Bathrooms.”

Do you know of any bathrooms that you think deserve a shout our

  1. Happy Blogiversary!
I went to Zoo America one time in February. I had the zoo almost to myself. On that same trip, I accidentally found the church cemetery where part of Milton Hershey’s family is buried. You can see the Hershey smokestacks on that same stretch of road.
