Last year for Christmas I made Mr. Man his own personalized Alphabet Book. I got the idea because when he was a baby he had been give a soft cloth baby photo album, like the one that is linked to here *.
It was a fun toy but Mr. Man was getting very good at taking the pictures out of the album. Also it didn’t hold that many photos so I felt like we were not able to display that many pictures. I wanted him to learn the names of all of his family members but I didn’t have any interest in changing the pictures in the photo album on a weekly or monthly basis (that’s too much work for me).
So I decided to use Snapfish to create a family photo album that is also an alphabet book and that is how Patrick’s Family Alphabet Book was born.
Snapfish gives out so many coupon codes in November and December for the holiday shopping season, that it ended up being inexpensive to have printed. I have been storing my photos on Snapfish for several years so I had lots of family pictures to choose from. I signed up for their e-mail list so I regularly get coupon codes sent to my e-mail. To make things even simplier last year, I downloaded the Snapfish app for my phone and now it is a breeze to transfer pictures from my phone to my Snapfish account.
I didn’t use a template to make this book. In fact, this is the first photo book I have ever made. I did get a few ideas from other people’s blogs before I began but mostly I just created my own method for making it.
I did some pre-writing before I put the book together. I started by making a list on paper of the entire alphabet, then I filled in the letters with the first letter of our family member’s names.
For the letter’s where I had no family members to highlight, I filled in book with pictures of my son’s favorite toys or animals. Then I made sure I had pictures uploaded to Snapfish of all the family members, toys, and animals.
I won’t lie to you, making this book was time consuming, but I would say that based on how much we have read it in the past year, it was well worth the effort.
I am thinking about making Baby Nugget something similar for his 1st birthday in February. It might be a number book, I haven’t quite figured out what the concept will be yet.
Have you ever tried anything like this? Let me know in the comments section.
I love the fact that you have “U is for Usurper” and you included a sonogram photo of the second child!
Thank you Jenny! At the time I thought myself pretty witty
you are waymore talented than I will ever be! Great idea for kids!
