Top Seven Things to Do Now That the Super Bowl is Over
How to regroup now that winter’s biggest event has passed us by:
1) Take some time to jot down notes from your last Super Bowl night. What worked and what didn’t? Did you turn on the TV at just the right time, so that you caught all the relevant commercials but didn’t hear too much pre-game talk. What about your queso dip? Did you take it out of the microwave at just the right time? By completely avoiding the Halftime Show, did it help you feel less old, since you barely know who The Weeknd is? Making note of these things will help you plan next year’s Super Bowl night. Remember, failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
2) Go back to your cryogenics chamber or sensory deprivation chamber, or wherever you lie and wait until the next tortilla chip focused holiday. Luckily, you won’t have to wait too long, National Tortilla Chip day is February 24th.
3) If you don’t have chamber in your house where you go to pass time, you can turn that those extra beans you did not make into dip into a bean-dip stucco material. Gather up your corn chips, hot dog buns, slider buns or whatever you have laying around. Build a February version of a gingerbread house. Add salsa and sour cream for a fresh and delicious accent. Don’t forget a little cilantro for on top.
4) While you are in preparation mode, take some time to plan your NFL draft weekend retreat. This year the draft will be held from Thursday, April 29-Saturday, May 1st. Check your companies vacation day schedule and see if your employer automatically gives employees those days off, many employers do follow the NFL schedule. You might not need to request vacation days for the draft. Plan a menu, decided of sleeping accommodations. Are you going to watch the draft at home or in an expensive hotel. Sleeping in your own home can work in a pinch, but you will have to make sure to get your reservation in early if you hope to have white tigers at the event.
5) Use that post-Super Bowl energy to throw the most epic Lincoln Birthday celebration ever on Friday, February 12th. You could use your leftover bean dip and pretzel rods to build a replica Lincoln Log style cabin. Apparently, Lincoln was also quite the wrestler, so you could have family tag team wrestling in the middle of your kitchen. If you live alone, you could wrestle a large stuffed animal or ask a friend or neighbor if they would like to wrestle with you; most likely they would. Explain that it is in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.
6) Do you know that Valentine’s Day began being celebrated on February 14th during Medieval Times because people believed that this was the day that birds chose their mate for mating season? Honor those birds by creating your own bird singles bar. Create homemade bird feeders with bird seed ornaments and bagels slathered with peanut butter and rolled in birdseed. Then watch as the magic happens. If you have other things to do, walk away and know that you did a good thing for birds in your area.
6.5) Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your loved ones, if you have time.
7) Make sure you put Monday, February 15th at 7am into your phone’s calendar so that you can make sure to get out to the stores as soon as they open to buy the left-over Valentine’s Day candy. Lindt heart shaped heart chocolates, yes please!
