Last weekend I was fortunate enough to the 75th Anniversary celebration for Camp Sequanota. It is the Lutheran Church camp that I attended in my teens, at the invitation of a school friend. Then I was lucky enought to work at Sequanota, as we call it, for three summers while I was in college. My three younger sisters also attended Camp Sequanota and worked there as well.
Camp Sequanota has always been such a special place for me. When I first attended as a 13 year old in 1993, it restored my self-worth from the ravages of the theatre of the eighth grade social scene. It did the same after the trials of ninth grade. I have always found something restorative from spending time at Camp Sequanota.
I spent three summers working at Camp Sequanota as a young adult and it has ended up not only changing the course of my life but my sisters lives as well. One of my younger sisters met her husband while they worked as staff members at Camp Sequanota in the year 2000.
Camp Sequanota us also responsible for my marriage. I met Mr. Katie though a close friend who I worked with while at Sequanota. Mr. Katie and I met nine years after my friend Jeremy and I first worked together as counselors. Mr. Katie was a co-worker of Jeremy. Jeremy introduced me to Mr. Katie while we attended their work Christmas party, which was at a Philadelphia Flyers game. The rest as they say is history.
In any case, last weekend was a time to gather with old friends and visit. All four of my sisters attended the anniversary celebration (even my older sister who is not an alum) . Several of us sisters also camped in two of the camp’s cabins for the weekend. Our children also enjoyed themselves during the weekend. We spent time swimming in the camp’s pool, attending meals in the dining hall, singing camp songs, attending worship services, and climbing on the climbing wall. One camp friend brought along her VW Vanagon to sleep in for the night and many of the children of the camp alum enjoyed playing in it.
So enjoy some pictures from this camp weekend.
