For today’s post today I felt inspired by my cousin James who has a blog called Stylish to call out what’s trending this month in my world. I follow James’s blog and love the honesty that he has with his readers.
Here are the top Eight Trends for September in Katieworld:
- In my house, the banger of season is The Narcissist by the British band Blur. We started hearing it on the radio this summer and while the whole family likes it, Kindergarten Nugget got hooked on it. Now we play it from Youtube at least twice a day. He especially likes to hear it while he is in the bathtub. Sometimes he sings it while he plays.
- I have been into manifesting rainy weekends by stating my verbally stating my interest in going camping during said weekend. All I have to do is tell my husband that we should go camping during the coming weekend and make a loose plan and the next thing you know, the weather report is listing rain all weekend. It has happened twice now. So if you are tired of rainy weekends this month, you can thank me.
- If it’s September then I am doing things in super intense way. (It’s like the first days following New Year’s Day in January for me). At this time of year, I feel the need to everything the “right way”. For example, at the beginning of this month, I made all this calendars for things I hope to do this month. I made calendars (and blogged about them) with star stickers for me for subjects like: cleaning up, Mr. Man’s independent reading, and for me to remember to read to Kindergarten Nugget everyday.
- Going along with my need to “get stuff done”, I have spent time this month researching and signing my children up for extracurricular programs. Both this and last week, I have emailed multiple Cub Scout troops to figure out what nights they meet. (Some nights are better for us than others). I also signed Kindergarten Nugget up for storytime and took him to storytime at another library during the week there wasn’t storytime at our library. I guess I have been trying to “do stuff the right way”, which I know from past experience is how I do
Januaryl mean September. - I have been doing a lot of reading lately. In September, I read my book for my book club. It was called West With Giraffes and I blogged about it. I have also been reading a booked called The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson. I got this book out of a Little Free Library during covid in 2020. I picked it up again this month. It is actually pretty good and dispite the title, it has some pretty sage advice. It is all about letting go of things that don’t matter so you can focus on what does matter. Also the title, despite it’s profanity, speaks to the Dude Bro who lives in my soul and gets a little titillated by the occasional use of bad words being used for emphasis.
- My recent need to track what I am doing and my intense interest in reading all comes together in my need lately to track my reading on GoodReads, the app for tracking what you are reading and what you plan it read in the future. Much like the most interesting man in the world, while I don’t always feel the need to report on Goodreads what page I am on in my book, when I do you can be assured that the month in question is September (or January).
- I am slowly getting into pumpkin spice season. It has been pretty warm here so I haven’t fully given myself over to pumpkin spice season yet. However, this past week I met a couple of friends for coffee while the boys were at school and I tried a Pumpkin Sweet Cream Cold Brew at Playa Bowls, a smoothie chain near my house. I haven’t been to Starbucks yet this fall but I look forward to trying one of their pumpkin drinks with the BoGo deal that they have on Thursdays in September.
- Finally, we have been working on our house and yard. We have been picking the remaining things in our garden. There are actually a lot of things right now. I need to figure out what to do with them all. I also made yogurt from milk and starter. I am in the process of some working on some decluttering while the boys are at school. Also, last weekend Mr. Katie put up the new swing set that we just got for the boys. It called Big Brutus and is designed for big kids, which I am sure our boys will be soon enough. We have been having a great time swinging and playing on it.
Loved the blog. Very informative.
