What We Have Been Up To Lately

I haven’t blogged much lately because springtime has gotten very busy. Maybe some of you have been wondering what we have been up to so I thought that I would indulge you.

  1. I have been doing some reading. I am still part of the book club at my local library. This month’s books was called Butts: A Backstory by Heather Radke. It is historical examination of woman’s backsides in popular culture. This was not my favorite book ever but I did enjoy learning the historical information contained in the book. It has been a while since I read a non-fiction book and some aspects of it were fun. However, outside of my bookclub I have been reading All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I have been hearing about how good this book is for years and I finally read it this month. At 544 pages, it isn’t short and it is a little scary in parts. The short chapters and the way the author skips between the three major character’s stories makes the scary bits more manageable. I liked it very much however, I think there were a few parts that could have been shortened slightly. However, it is a good read with lots of description and beauty and an intriguing plot.

2. We got a truck! We recently to the county where I grew up and we bought my Dad’s truck. Kindergarten Nuggget is in heaven. He just loves everything about it. Both boys love playing in it. We are going to use it this summer for some fun adventures. It is also going to be Mr. Katie’s primary vehicle. (He is going to sell his current vehicle). Driving and riding in the truck also helps us to remember Pap!

3. Mr. Katie went on trip with his college friends to Milwaukee and Chicago in mid-April. Here is a picture that he took outside of Wrigley Field. The trip was centered around watching baseball games in the both cities and eating local delicacies such as sausages and other pork products, pizza and beer.

4. While Mr. Katie was away, the boys and I had had some of our own adventures. On one of the days while Mr. Katie was gone, the boys had a random in-service day so we took a rode trip to a destination playground. This might be the last time that they will both fit into this car together. The next day we visited a a used booksale and Mr. Man found all of these great finds for his book collection.

5. The end of the school year is almost upon us. Kindergarten Nugget only has about six more weeks of school. I am trying to enjoy my last weeks of half day kindergarten. On Friday, we took a trip to one of our favorite parks which includes a large sandbox full of trucks. Here is picture of Kindergarten Nugget enjoying himself.

6. Tomorrow I am running in the St. Luke’s Half Marathon. On Friday, I made my shirt for the race. Wish me luck. I am working hard to make sure that I am extremely hydrated for this race as I am trying to take advantage of things that I can control today.

  1. Another race! You are awesome! We have been reminiscing about your parents a lot lately. Today we went to the library, and Summer mentioned Shirley taking them to the Bookmobile. Then later I am not sure what brought it up, but Franklin said about Bob and the dogs.
