Highlights From Summer Vacation: Swim Team and Time Spent at the SOLECO Pool

One high of the “big stones”, meaning activities that defined part of our summer was Mr. Man participating in the swim team at our local community pool. We belong to the SOLECO pool, which stands for Southern Lehigh Community Pool. It is located not far from our house in Coopersburg, PA.

Being part of the swim team was a pretty steep learning curve for the whole family but it ended up being a lot of fun for us all. Mr. Katie got trained as a stroke and turn official before the season began and he was able to help out by being part of the officiating team at two of the swim meets. I made some food that was was sold at snack bar. H. Nugget came to most of Mr. Man’s meets and helped to cheer him on from the sidelines. H. Nugget has taken some swimming lessons in the past and will probably continue this school year to take lesson and maybe in the future, he too will join the swim team.

Here is a picture of the banner hanging up at the pool with Mr. Man and some of the other members of the swim team.

The SOLECO pool has been part of our family’s summer since 2016 when we first joined as members.

Here is a picture of our family the first summer that we started going to the pool, 2016. Here is Mr. Man long before he was a member of the swim team.

Here is a picture of H. Nugget when he was just a little guy at the SOLECO pool in 2018.

I would say that the SOLECO pool has gotten us through some tough summers; it was maybe our major source of fun during the pandemic summer of 2020. Here is Mr. Man in 2020, with his body on land and his head in the pool. I believe this picture was from one of the many days when we would go to the pool as soon as it opened at noon and then came back in the evening for a second swim after dinner.

Here is a picture of the guys together when they were smaller in 2019.

Right now the SOLECO pool is facing a capital shortfall and are in need of help. In fact, it is closed this week through Friday because there is not money in the budget for staffing the pool. If you are interested in donating to the pool, here is a link.

I don’t work at the pool, nor am I on the board, I am just a pool enthusiast so I am passing this information along.

What are some of the “big stones” of your summer this year?

Reply below. I hope that your summer is going well.

  1. Great post Katie! We enjoyed seeing past pictures of your pool adventures. It’s so cool that Mr. Man competed on his swim team this year and everyone had a good time. We like to go to our local pool often too. It’s also something we started doing during COVID.
