Summer So Far . . .

The boys enjoying an ice treat.

Hi Guys,

It’s been three weeks since my last post. It’s been three weeks since the last day of school. June is surely flying by.

The first two weeks since school let out for the summer could be summed up with three words: rain, rain, rain. The days were cooler and it possibly rained every day.

We also went hard, so hard. How hard?

Remember that part in my last post? It was very aspirational. I shared my summer wish list. It was all about how I wanted to take it easy and live life at a slower pace.

In my post, I wrote about how I wanted to:

“Teach them things [meaning Mr. Man and Nugget], . . .work with the boys on life skills, and … [have it] it revolve a little more around what I want to do too”?

Katie Nicholson, June 6, 2025

I remember as well!

I apparently threw this all out the window the morning Saturday, June 7th, 2025 began.

Here is a list of all the things that we did during the first two weeks of summer vacation:

  • Attempted to read 20 minutes every day and tracked it on our summer reading calendars
  • Went to Dorney Park for the first time ever, then went again a week later
  • Visited the local pool 3x
  • Visited the local library 2x
  • Signed up for the Summer Fun Club at the local library
  • Walked Tracker the dog
  • Got out on bikes and scooters before 7:30 am 3+ times
  • Never slept-in past 7:00 am
  • Visited the Science Museum in Allentown
  • Watched a movie at the movie theater
  • Packed for Boy Scout Camp then
  • Traveled to Philadelphia to see cousin compete in track and field competition then
  • Left for Scout Camp in the Poconos the next morning

This current post isn’t meant to be braggy, this is meant to illustrate that I had a hard time guiding us toward a more leisurely pace of life. We did have fun those first two weeks, but by the time Mr. Katie and the boys left for camp last Sunday, I was ready for a break.

Since this past Sunday, Mr. Katie and the boys have been living it up at Scout Camp. I have been getting texts and pictures since their departure Sunday morning but I haven’t spoken to them about their adventures. Here is a picture recently shared with me from Mr. Katie that was taken at camp.

So what am I doing during this third week of summer vacation? I am relaxing a little. I still haven’t really slept-in since school let out for the summer, but I am a little more relaxed.

My sister Liz is currently visiting my house and we are having our own GirlcationTM (trademark pending). We are having some of our adventures. It hasn’t been exactly a non-active staycation. I guess I am who I am.

We are having a good time though. She brought her dog along too so there has been plenty of dog play.

I believe this is the longest period of time in which I have gone without seeing Mr. Man and Nugget before.

I am having a good time and I am looking forward to my pack returning home later tonight.

I hope that your summer is good so far.

Here is one last picture from early summer break.

Mr. Man and Nugget love Planet Snoopy, the Peanuts themed child and family area at Dorney Park. Before we enter the park, Mr. Man always talks about how he is going to ride on the biggest coasters at Dorney. Then in reality, he ends up riding the Woodstock Express in Planet Snoopy instead.
