Avett Brothers concert at Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA

On Saturday night we (Mr. Katie, my sister Liz, and I) attended the Avett Brothers concert which was part of Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA.

I have been to zero music concerts since the summer before Mr. Man was born (2015), so it has been 10 years, man. That’s a long time to go without listening to live music in that sort of setting.

[I feel like I should say that last summer we saw a concert at a park that put on my our local township’s summer music lineup, but you get what I am saying.]

The Avett Brothers on Saturday put on a great show. We all had a very good time. The Avett’s played some of favorites including: “I and Love and You”, “Murder in the City”, “February Seven”, and “Kick Drum Heart” to name a few. They also told a story about playing before Toby Keith (who I kind of love) at a tribute concert for Tom T. Hall (who my father loved) and how they were wowed by Keith’s stage presence. Then they played a cover of Toby Keith song “Good As I Once Was”, I was thrilled. A while later they closed out the night with the song “No Hard Feelings”, which is so emotional and beautiful.

We got a babysitter for the evening. We even had time to wander Bethlehem’s ArtsQuest campus, get some food from a food truck, and take in the Musikfest ambiance afterward.

We also enjoyed the opening act Scythian, an Irish influenced folk-rock band . It turns out that Liz had seen Scythian three times before Saturday night so she was very excited. Mr. Katie and I became Scythian fans that night.

It was a great evening. Here are a few pictures.
