Our First Fish

On the weekend before school started, we went on our annual Hickory Run State Park camping trip. Hickory Run is one of our favorite state parks. Previously, I posted some pictures of the boys using the Kindling Cracker while we were camping that weekend.

Making smaller firewood pieces certainly was one aspect of our weekend, but here is another story of an adventures that we had.

We spent some time fishing while we were camping.

We have been going a 2-3 times a summer in the past few years. Usually when we camp at Hickory Run, we fish a little bit of the time, but sometimes we fish at other lakes too.

I really had not been fishing since I was an elementary school child, but we all have been enjoying it since we started going a few years ago. However, in all this time, not a single one of us has ever caught anything besides lakeweed. Nothing, nada and honestly, I guess I haven’t really been expecting to catch anything.

But low and behold, if you preserve long enough and the conditions are right, you might eventually catch a fish.

Check us out! Of course we threw our fish back, but it was exciting nonetheless.

In truth, I caught fish on two different occasions when I was a girl, but it has probably been close to forty years since I have caught anything, so I was pretty excited.

This fish, on my line, was not even my only nibble of the day, I think both Mr. Man and I had multiple opportunities that morning to bring in fish if we had mastered setting the hook.

This experience has given me hope that more fish will be in my future. Truthfully though, fishing is very relaxing even if you don’t catch anything.
