Everyday Adventures with Preschool Nugget: Towing Things (Mostly His Wagon)

Preschool Nugget has recently come into a stage where he is obsessed with towing things. Also, he is obsessed with our next-door neighbor Jackson* (not his real name). Jackson is an industrious young man who works either in the construction industry or on a farm. In any case, Jackson seems to have the ability to bring home earth moving equipment, cement mixers, and various lawn mowers. Mostly, Jackson transports these things on trailers that he attaches to his large, loud, diesel-powered pick-up truck.

We, Mr. Katie and I, don’t know where he gets the equipment. I suspect he works for his family’s business but maybe he rents the things that he uses. He also has a humongous camper that he sometimes backs up his driveway, which is borders the property line on the right side of our house. In any case, Preschool Nugget is enthralled with all the things that Jackson does, especially when he backs up that camper!

Jackson is like a real-life Rubble (for those of you who don’t have small children, Rubble is one the primary members of the Paw Patrol, a popular show for young children that combines puppies and gagets).

Many mornings, Preschool Nugget awakens to the sound of Jackson’s pick-up truck engine turning over and idling in the driveway between our houses. This is usually around 6 am and lasts from anywhere between 1-20 minutes. Sometimes, for a change of pace, the idling starts at 5:30 am. He also seems to really like to get going on a noisy project like weed whacking or sawing boards around the time we are trying to get the boys ready for bed, say 7:47 pm on a Sunday night.

Jackson’s house is the last thing Preschool Nugget looks at outside of the window before he goes to bed at night and the first thing he looks at in the morning. Naturally, Jackson’s house is on the opposite of the house to Preschool Nugget’s bedroom, so he has to come to his parent’s bedroom (often early in the morning) to look. Needless to say, the idling and the looking wake me up too. Mr. Katie and I joke, but not really joke, that it seems like Preschool Nugget’s greatest wish is for Jackson to adopt him. Jackson is a married (meaning: settled down) dog owner in his early twenties who seems industrious and doesn’t throw wild parties. Also, he seems nice. As far as role models go, Preschool Nugget could have picked worse.

In any case, seeing Jackson towing things has inspired Preschool Nugget Mr. Katie and I think. Preschool Nugget has always been very into playing with his wagon but lately he has taken to attaching his wagon to all sorts of things.

Notice the green bungee cord. It has become an indispensable tool for attaching and towing things. We still haven’t pulled the wagon with the car, but this scenerio seems to be the dream for Preschool Nugget as he hooks this configuration up almost daily.
For a while now, Preschool Nugget has been tooling around with the best way to attach the wagon to the cozy coup. He used to just attach the wagon’s handle to the toy car but the addition of the bungee cord has taken it up a notch.
He has worked on several configurations with the camper. Sometimes the wagon is hooked to the camper with the bungee cord, sometimes one bike or another is hooked up to the camper. Note: I am what is pulling what in this configurarion, the important thing is that they seem to be attached to eachother.
Sometimes older brother gets in on the action. While bungee pulling was never a game Mr. Man enjoyed before, he soemtimes plays along. Preschool Nugget was truly in his element the night his brother pulled him around the shopping center near our house in the wagon with his mower.
More than once, Preschool Nugget has had me hook up the wagon with the green bungee cord to my bike while he was sitting in the child seat. Then I rode laps around the shopping center near our house while transporting him and the wagon.
This is one of Preschool Nugget’s favorite setups. He loves his bike and his wagon, so why not put them together?
I call this picture “The Dream” because this is Preschool Nugget’s dream, as far as I can tell. He and I rode a few laps around this truck and trailer before I snapped this picture. Then after the taking the picture we watched the workers who rode in this truck return after picking up some food. They paid no attention to Preschool Nugget who was transfixed by them. He seemed to believe that they were living the dream. It took a some convincing to get him to ride away from them.

So those are Preschool Nugget’s adventures. What family member should I feature next?
