5 Things To Do If You Find Yourself Feeling Stuck in Life

Give Yourself Permission to Do Something That Makes You Happy

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while now. I do not know if I am able to give it all the oomph that it deserves but I am going to give it the best I can right now. Giving things your best try for that momement is really all you can do in life.

1). Work Your Routine. This is number one on this list for a reason. Everytime I feel myself feeling stuck, this is one of the biggest keys I can use to help myself start to feel unstuck. It could also be called “Lean on your routines”. What I mean is when you are feeling lost, use your daily routines to guide you on what to do next. For example, if you wake most days at 6:30 am, then wake up at that time even if you are feeling bad and lost. If you take a walk at 11:30 am most days, then continue to take a walk at that time even if you are feeling bad. Having a general outline of how you usually live your day will guide you on how to live and what you should do next when you are not feeling your happiest.

2) Make a List of Things You Need to Do. Perhaps if you are feeling lost because you do not know what steps to take next, writing down what you need to do might help you clarify what needs to be accomplished. Sometimes we see things in writing that we cannot process when they are only in our heads.

3) Exercise. Even if you don’t like to exerercise, you should take a walk or do something physical that you like to do. Perhaps you like to mow grass or chop wood. Doing something physical can act as a form of meditaion and can give you a much needed break from your thoughts.

4) Try To Do Something That is Fun for You. Sometimes when we are feeling our “most extra” it can be hard to think about fun, or how to have fun. If you can though, try to do something that makes you happy. Perhaps your happy activitiy is crafting or baking or watching a funny movie. Give yourself the gift of a break from your thoughts.

5) Small Steps, Baby Steps. aka Do The Next Right Thing. Rome wan’t built in a day they say. Big change comes from many, many little steps. Sometimes in life, we believe that in order to make big progress in our lives, we must do something monumental, something huge. The truth is though that big change comes from a series of very small movements. I often forget this myself. I am always telling my husband that we should move and moving in a monumental task. We might move someday, but the truth is that in order to achieve the change I want, I need to make small daily movements every day. I need to remember to call the heater repair company and set up an appointment for them to clean our heater. I need to connect with a repair man to fix a few leaks we have in the roof. I neve watched Frozen 2 but appearently there is a song called Do The Next Right Thing, it seems like good advice. This statement is also what Glennon Doyle writes about in her book Untamed. Also I read the same advice in the book that I am currently engrossed in called The Artist’s Way. I didn’t like the movie What About Bob but the advice Richard Dreyfuss’s character gives Bill Murray is good advice, take baby steps.

Anyway, I hope this is helpful. If anything it is a good reminder for me when I am feeling lost.

I am feeling pretty good right now though. How are you getting into the holiday spirit?
