A Half Week Filled with Wheels

All of the pictures featured today have been taken from Sunday-Wednesday this week. It seem that we When I look at my pictures now, it seem we have had a half-week filled with wheels.

It started on Sunday, when as a lark, Mr. Katie brought out Mr. Man’s previous bike with the training wheels removed and showed it to Preschool Nugget.

Preschool Nugget has been riding a training wheel bike enthusiastically for a while now, but we haven’t really been trying to teach him to ride without training wheels. Sunday must have been his time because he took to it fairly quickly.

Luckily, our street is a dead end. That makes it nice to practice things like bike riding.
He looks so proud of himself.

On Monday, while Mr. Man was at school, I enjoyed my last afternoons with Preschool Nugget alone before summer vacation. He has really been enjoying hooking up the trailer hitch to my car and pretending to tow various conveyances behind the car. Towing scenarios are among his favorite games.

Here is Preschool Nugget, inspecting the hitch.
Preschool Nugget asked me to unlock the car so that he could pretend to drive the car while towing his wagon with his tractor on top.

On Tuesday we visited a nearby park and he spent about twenty minutes sitting on this tractor.

Thanks to the borough of Coopersburg for not telling him to get off of the tractor even though a workman walked by and completely saw him doing this.

On Wednesday, it was Mr. Man’s final day of school. His school had a half day of instruction and our air outside was very smokey so we headed to Allentown and visited the America on Wheels Museum for the first time ever.

It was the right place for these boys. They both seemed to enjoy themselves. We will definitely go back and visit again.

I like how much Preschool Nugget is smiling.
Mr. Man, though not as into vehicles as Preschool Nugget, also found plenty of things to explore at the America on Wheels Museum
Here they are together

Right beside the giftshop in the museum, there is a play garage for budding mechanics.

Preschool Nugget kept wandering in the giftshop to play with the toys for sale. He even tried to steal one when it was time to leave. Oops!

Even though Preschool Nugget is standing in the front in these pictures, it was really Mr. Man who enjoyed the play garage the most.

Mr. Man said his favorite part of the museum was honking the horns from a display in the museum about car horns.

There was a 50’s style soda fountain where we ate ice-cream cones we purchased at the giftshop. The soda fountain area is available to rent for parties and gatherings.

We pretty much had the museum to ourselves as we visited on a Wednesday afternoon in early June when most schools were still in session for the year. It was nice but it might have been more fun with a few more visitors. We will certainly come back another time.

What have you been up to?

  1. I love the fact that he has his tractor tied down to the wagon. He obviously observes closely people carry vehicles on trailers! Next thing you know, he’s going to be asking you to install tie down points in that thing and using ratchet straps…. 🙂

    1. *observes closely HOW people carry…

I’d blame Monday, but it is clearly a Thursday.

    2. Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for your comment. He has some very specific interests but I never really thought about how much he must be watching other people’s towing setups and noticing the ways in which they do it. Maybe you can teach him about ratchet straps and tie down points.
      Have a good Saturday,
      Katie

  2. Go Preschool Nugget for learning to ride a bike without trading wheels! That’s awesome!! That museum sounds so fun and right up your boys’ alley too. They look super excited in your pictures. Especially Preschool Nugget.

  3. Pappy Jim just loves the trailer hook up and tied down tractor… they could be best pals!!!! Museum looked like great fun.
