Pictures from the Last Week of August and Early September

I went outside on August 30th to take a picture of the supermoon, it was too early instead I ended up taking a picture of the colorful sunset. When I looked at this picture later, to me, it sort of looked like the most political sunset picture ever with both the flag and a cross near the center. I wasn’t trying to make a statement, it is purely an accident.

Hi All,

We had an exciting last week of August into the beginning of September.

Several exciting things happened: We took of annual birthday camping trip at Hickory Run State Park. We celebrated Mr. Katie’s birthday. Mr. Man and Kindergarten Nugget started the 2023-24 school year. Kindergarten Nugget officerly became a true kindergartner. He rode a school bus for the first time both to and from school. We also visited the Great Allentown Fair for the first time while the boys were off of school on Friday.

For Mr. Katie’s birthday, we went on our annual Hickory Run State Park camping trip. Here is a picture of one of the waterfalls we saw along the beautiful hiking trail with a scary name. Photo credit: Mr. Katie.
This year at Hickory Run, everyone seemed to be interested in doing a lot of fishing.
Here is a picture of Mr. Katie getting the rods ready for fishing fun.
This year at Hickory Run, we took advantage of several of the naturalist lead programs at the park that weekend. The boys desperately wanted to meet Smokey the Bear and they were excited when we finally saw him. They thought we were going to miss him.
Here is a rare picture of me with the boys near the Stamez dam along the Shades of Death Trail at Hickory Run. Nobody was really in the mood to get their picture taken.
Kindergarten Nugget outside of school on the first day.
Here is Kindergarten Nugget getting on the bus to school for the first time last week.
We celebrated Mr. Katie’s birthday with cake last week a few days after we came home from camping because of scheduling conflicts.
On Friday, the boys and I visited The Great Allentown Fair (they really call it that). The boys enjoyed the children’s area the best of all.
Both boys enjoyed trying out this virtual reality tractor driving simulator. It was a big hit.
What fair trip would not be complete without some time driving the pedal tractors?

  2. Looks like a great week! Seeing the Nugget getting on the bus for the first time was exciting and brought a tear to my eye. The Fair looked great and that tractor simulator looked amazing! Happy almost Fall!

    1. Thank you Aunt Heidi. It brought a tear to my eye too. They grow up so fast. He loves riding the bus though. I kind of think it might be his favorite park of going to school.
