18 More, Additional Food and Activity Pairings Outside of the Pumpkin Spice Realm

  1. Prune your hedges (or your hedge maze) if you have one and refresh yourself with hot mulled wine and slice of s’mores icebox cake.
  2. Observe the autumn hawk migration at Hawk Mountain or the Ruby Throated Hummingbird migration at Lake Erie and whip up a Korean Bulgogi Bolognese beforehand to give yourself sustenance during your bird watching.
  3. There’s nothing like leaf peeking during an autumn mountain biking adventure in the Laurel Highlands or the Poconos but don’t forget to pack an unforgettable pear grunt to round out your day in the mountains.
  4. A persimmon pudding is the perfect coda to an afternoon spent geocaching with friends.
  5. A delicious hot dog and espresso chili is just the nourishing lunch ones body requires after a morning engaged in bee keeping chores including harvesting the honey and treating diseased combs.
  6. Make a giant skillet chocolate chip cookie to reward yourself for restraining your deck. Fall is the perfect time for restraining with its ideal temperatures between 50-90 degrees.
  7. A ground cherry and roasted beat salad in your picnic basket is a must have for a afternoon spent playing paint ball or firing pumpkin cannons.
  8. Grab your acoustic guitar, some of your buds, build a campfire and belt out those fall tunes. Time of Your Life by Green Day and This Time of Year by Better Than Ezra really fit the mood of the season. Just don’t forget to bring a vanilla and apple cider flavored panna cotta with spiced ginger cookies to your fireside gathering.
  9. Take that final pleasure cruise of the year on your boat just don’t forget to bring eggnog Belgian waffles and syrup.
  10. Do go to your alma mater’s homecoming celebration. Don’t forget to bring a maple-apple upside down cake.
  11. The majesty of a fall canoe ride down your favorite river is breathtaking, but don’t muck up your expedition by forgetting the butternut squash macaroni and cheese.
  12. Pair that fall antiquing trip your have been planning with a cranberry-orange fruit platz, a thin Mennonite coffee cake.
  13. Get thee to a greenhouse or nursery to purchase some geraniums or marigolds to give your house the perfect fall look. Then relax by preparing a butternut squash sage and sausage penne rigate with warm pumpernickel.
  14. Scrape your windows for the first time this season and then go inside and polish off a mug of hot buttered rum.
  15. Bake a sausage stuffed acorn squash then put plastic on your window to reduce drafts.
  16. Make a Pyrex bowl of a Hungarian goulash to bring along with you when you attend a themed weekend at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire.
  17. Take in the majesty of the season by booking a Fall Foliage Zipline tour. Don’t forget to brown bag yourself a mushroom strudel to-go.
  18. Devote hours of your life to concocting ridiculous food and activity combinations. Finish final post. Then Celebrate with a handful of Aldi knockoff-brand Cheese-Its a swig of cold, but previously warm, cinnamon tea.

  2. I greatly enjoyed my autumnal Laurel Highlands weekend, but, drat! I forgot to bring a pear grunt!

    Also, looks like Kindergarten Nugget enjoyed his mushroom strudel 😄
