What’s Up With Katie: January-ing so Hard

Here is a picture of me and the boys last weekend during the Saturday snowfall.

Hi All,

You might have been thinking to yourself, wow, it’s been so long since I heard from Katie, I wonder what she has been up to.

Well, lucky you because you are in for a treat. I am about to tell you.

First of all, I had a nice New Year’s spending time with some my sisters and my family in my hometown. We walked to a very nice light display that a group of homeowners made in their yards. We had been to it a few years ago as well. It was very cool that they worked together to make this display and invited people from the public to walk through and take a look. I love that they did this. Small town people are amazing because they are often exhibit an industriousness and can do attitude where they create things for themselves and their neighbors. I have posted some pictures at the end of this post for you too see. It was great to have fellowship with one and other while we socialized and figured out our new life situations.

Since we returned to “real life” late in the afternoon of New Year’s Day, life has pretty January-ish. We had some nice snow last weekend which we enjoying playing in. We are having been making a point to play more board games than usual. Kindergarten Nugget has become very interested in playing Candy Land as of late. Mr. Katie, Mr. Man and I have become interested in learning how to play chess better.

Another positive thing that happened this week is that I feel like I have begun to turn a corner in terms of my guitar learning progress. I started taking lessons at the end of October and for a while, I felt like I was making progress. Then my progress stagnated. All of December and up until a few days ago, I did not feel like I was getting any better, but all of sudden a few things shifted in my brain and I feel like I am starting to able to play actual songs. My guitar teacher sent me home with two Taylor Swift songs to practice this week and I feel like I can almost hear them when I play them. So I shall keep working.

Unfortunately, there has also been some sickness in our house. I also find myself struggling a bit with purpose and where and how to apply my efforts to my life. It feels like I have little bits of time here and there. Sometimes I have too much time and sometimes I have too little and I have been feeling a little lost in my own skin. I read this article this morning about the struggles of starting a New Year which I found very helpful, maybe you will find it helpful too. January is hard to wrap ones head around.

In order to combat my complicated January feelings, I have started working on a new online trivia quiz. If anything, I can be helpful in delivering a few minutes of trivia bliss to your life. This online kahoot quiz will be available next Thursday, January 18th in the evening.

Additionally, I have started on working on my 2024 reading goal of reading 30 books in 2024. I haven’t finished any but I have started a few.

Drum roll please . . .

Also I registered to run in the 2024 St. Luke’s Half Marathon, held in Allentown on Sunday, April 28th. I am excited to start training beginning later this month.

Those are the items that I have on my agenda for now.

I hope you are all doing well.

Love,
Katie

  1. That light display is super cool Katie. Great pictures! Glad to hear your January is going well too.

  2. I’m not a January fan, but I’m trying! The light display was beautiful and the boys look like they ‘re enjoying the snow. Annabelle is dying to know what Taylor Swift songs you’re practicing……

  3. I love the display, but also the beagle that your sisters are holding. We did not get any snow resembling what you had last week. Candy Land is a great game, oldie, but goodie! LOL!
