The annual family reunion picnic is coming in October. I wanted to write this post to let everyone know that is is almost here!
[If you are interested in attending the family reunion and you do not have the details, please contact me in the comments section or send me a message and we will chat.]
I am still working on my food ideas for the weekend. I am trying to think of a delicious idea that is transportable and does not require a ton of refrigeration for the actual picnic. In the past I have done some baking beforehand and brought fresh cookies. I will probably do that again. The really hard part is not eating them before the picnic.
Here is a charcuterie plate that one of the attendees brought last year. So yummy!
The Reunion Picnic will be on one afternoon but my sisters and I get cottages next to each other for the entire weekend of the picnic.
Additionally, I am trying to think of fun ideas for food for our stay for our long weekend at the camping cottage. Some of my other sisters and their families have prepared great campsite spreads during our stay at the cottages in year’s past. These are cherished memories for me.
I feel like in the past I have been kind of slacker in terms of preparing food for other people. My oldest son is an idea person and thinks that we should prepare a food for everyone at our camping cottage this year.
Our boys cub scout den made “Scout comfort food” for our borough’s community day last weekend. They sold bacon grilled cheese sandwiches to order at their den’s table at the festivities.
I think that we might steal this idea. This seems completely doable, apparently the bacon used was bacon crumbles. I already told my husband that we should buy an electric griddle. Perhaps we can make something else to go with it that can be heated on a griddle or on the electric burner that we already own.
What food ideas do you have for me?
Perhaps I should take some of my own suggestions from last year.
I am also thinking about what to make. Sadly, old Giant Eagle gave up the ghost, and now procuring groceries will be a longer journey. I’d like to have a crock pot of cider again. I’m thinking about bringing my air fryer and making brie in puff pastry. Also, I would like to eat cherry tomatoes.
Hi Liz,
Your food ideas also sound good. I can’t believe old giant eagle went out of business. Remember when they and country market were the only real food stores in town?
I’m sadder about the closing of old giant eagle than I have been about the closing of any store ever. It was a great story to go to when you didn’t look very put together. I feel like I need to dress up a little more for new Giant Eagle (which has probably been around for at least 20 years).
I’m thinking I will order some mini slider sandwiches from Giant Eagle- I get those most every year. And maybe a vegetable casserole and some kind of dessert. I have a pretty large electric griddle I could let you use for weekend Kate- we’ll see you Saturday for Karate and I could bring it there so you’d have it Saturday night and Sunday if you want. So excited about seein* you all!!
Hi Aunt Heidi,
Brendan told me that he was going to use some gift cards and order the griddle. We have plans to put it in our camper and use it when we are camping. It’s fun to linger over breakfast when you are camping. Thank you though. Your food ideas sound amazing!
When is the big reunion? Is it too late to come? Just kidding and I hope you all have a great time. AJeanne
