Hot Mom Walk or Drive

Lately, I have started a affirmations practice and I find that it is affecting my outlook for the better. It is based on the “hot girl walk” movement. I have probably been living underneath a rock, but I only recently learned about Hot Girl Walk, which is an exercise trend that started on TikTok in 2021. And I only found out about Hot Girl Walks because I heard mention of the trend that was born from Hot Girl Walks called Hot Mom Walks.

Basically, the Hot Girl walk is a 4 mile walk (though you can choose any distance) where you do not listen to podcasts. You are there to be with your own thoughts. You can have music though if that helps you to be alone with yourself.

While you are walking you focus your thoughts on three things. 1) You think the things in your life that you are grateful for starting with the smallest things and working to larger things. You acknowledge people, situations, and experiences that have brought you to where you are now. 2) You think about what you have accomplished in your life. You feel grateful for what you have done and you allow yourself to feel proud of yourself for what you have accomplished. Then you move on to your goals and what you hope to accomplish in the future. 3) For the final part of your walk, you think about how hot you are. Hot is a state of mind, it is not not necessarily have to be limited to the physicality of life. You can think about what you are good at or what you rock. This is the confidence boosting part of your walk.

I didn’t invent this, it was invented by Mia Lind in January of 2021 while she was home during the pandemic instead of USC where she was a college student.

I went down a rabbit hole and learned all about the Hot Mom Walks and Hot Girl Walks last week. While on the internet, I learned that some Hot Mom walks are more focused on getting out of the house and making friendships with other moms. Some Hot Girl Walks are more fitness focused and omit the affirmations.

I found that I have a pretty thorough fitness practice right now, with my half marathon training, but could use a centering practice. I decided to try to Hot Girl Walk. However, instead of walking, I decided that I could dedicate some time to the affirmation exercises while I am driving. My work drive time is about 30-45 minutes, which is roughly the length of hot girl walk, me thinks. I only do the program if I am feeling up to it though.

As for my running, I used to listen to music on my phone while I was on a run. Then I tripped once or twice and I started to get worried about safety because I used to run at dawn so I quit listening to music. No music keeps me more focused on what I am doing and I fidget less with my phone. Also I can hear cars better without headphones. Because I needed something to keep me going while running, I started counting. So I count while I run. I also look at my watch sometimes and see how it syncs up with my counting. I usually start over at 1 when I reach 1,000. Sometimes, I start over at 500. It is oddly relaxing.

This past Sunday, I tried my new Hot Girl Walk gratefulness/ affirmations during part of the time on my 9 mile run and I liked it. (I still did my counting for part of the run).

I have probably been through the Hot Girl Walk program 4 times now and I think it has improved my life in the last week. I don’t know if I will keep doing this forever. I don’t know if I could keep doing this if life got really stressful but I think it is a positive practice in my life right now.

Maybe you would find it helpful too.

  1. I never heard of the Hot Girl Walk or Hot Mom Walk until just now reading your blog. I asked Hayley if she heard of it & of course, she had! 😂

  2. I’ve heard of hot girl walks before, but I didn’t know about the affirmations and all that. I thought it was more just about getting out of the house and moving. But I like the idea of affirmations. Oddly enough I keep saying that I’m going to start counting while I’m in the car. We’re supposed to be able to count to 50 in Korean at karate and I have trouble with some of the higher numbers. I thought that would be a good way to practice.

  3. When walking, keep your eye on the path. Last Tuesday I gave myself a shiner and a painful knee.
Never mind the rest of the body. then less than 10 minutes later I fell again. but I think I may have been woozy. so, if you fall. relax. take a breather to recover!
