Wordless Wednesday: Crabbing in Chincoteague, Virginia

We went crabbing while we were in Chincoteague this month. We learned from Captain Dan’s recommendation sheet that Captain Steve’s Bait and Tackle (so many Captains!) was the place to go if we were interested in catching some crabs.

We purchased a crabbing kit from Captain Steve’s for about $20. With the kit, Mr. Katie and Mr. Man caught about seven “keepers” (they have to be a certain length to keep) and we cooked them up that night. So much work to get the meat out, but so delicious!

Two days later, the whole family went crabbing and we caught many, many crabs. We threw them all back that day. I was surprised how easy there were to catch. Crabs sure love the chicken necks that we were using for bait.

Here are a few pictures.
