Our First Scratch-Off Adventure

In the beginning, before the blog and the Instagram account and even before boys, I was given this pink adventure journal from my loving husband who knew that I love adventures and crave novelty. This way if I got an idea for an activity, I could write it down and then we could do it.

I didn’t record that many ideas in this book but we did have some great adventures and we generated ideas in various ways. Sometimes I got tired of planning activities or generating ideas (even though it is one of my favorite things to do). Some of our adventures are recorded on this blog.

But this Christmas season, I saw an advertisement from RIO, Reach International Outfitters, for scratch-off cards for adventures centered around specific geographic areas. I bought the Ohio box for one of my sisters and I ended getting my household both the Philadelphia box and the Pennsylvania box (because they were on-sale and I thought that we could use the PA box for camping and the Philadelphia box for more local adventuring).

Last weekend, we went snow tubing at Bear Creek Resort in our very own county. We might not have ventured there to do it had it not been on one of our cards. 0/4 of us had ever been snow tubing before! Everyone was a little out of their element. However, it ended up being easy, safe, and totally fun for the whole family.

I grew up near ski resorts but I always thought that they were only for people who weren’t me. City people? Fancy people? Pittsburgh people? I don’t know.

Our Reach International Outfitters cards have pushed me out of my comfort zone. I look forward to sharing with you what adventure cards we try next.

(I am not being paid in any way for this post, if future cards are duds, I will tell you so.)

Here’s one more picture of us after our snow tubing adventure.

  1. Those cards sound really fun. What a great way to find new things to do. And your family selfies are awesome!
