We Got A New Dog This Month

Earlier this month, we welcomed a new arrival to our home. If Demi could read this blog, I would say, “Welcome to our house and to the Everyday Adventures with Katie blog”.

Round of applause and a big “Yay” for Demi!

The she might say, “I have been living with you for over two weeks now, why are you welcoming me? I live here now and I thought that I was a fully vested member of the family.”

I would then explain that welcoming a dog or a small baby or wishing a five-year old child Happy Birthday on Facebook is just something that people over the age of thirty do. The olds know that the intended party can’t yet or doesn’t have the proper rods and cones in their eyes to read digital text on a screen. It is a performance for the reader’s (and poster’s) benefit.

Then Demi would yawn and say, “Boring, I am going to take a nap now.”

So readers, here are the deets:

Demi is around three years old. She is from South Carolina. We met her and her foster father in April and adopted her in early May. As far as we know, she is probably a Great Pyrenees and Golden Retriever mix. She is a female and has had a few litters of puppies, though as of April she will never have another litter again. She seems to be nocturnal and though very friendly takes her guard dog duties seriously. She is open to taking a few short walks a day but is quite happy resting in the house or on the lawn. She is a keen observer but seems very relaxed with her new family.

Here is a picture of her napping.

Here is a picture of her with stuffed animals on her back. She is very gentle with the boys. She has been very calm when participating in this type of play. She reminds us a little of the dog Nana from Peter Pan in that she seems to see her duties as protecting Mr. Man and Nugget. She has been both the receiver and once or twice the giver of hugs. She is willing to participate in play.

So, “Welcome Demi!”
