Summer Vacation Chronicles: The Rest of my Girlcation

During my Girlcation, I spent some time enjoying the dulcet sounds of Three Little Birds, a reggae band in the Wildwater Kingdom section of Dorney Park

Hey Friends,

I feel like we haven’t connected in a while. I feel like I need to close the loop on me telling you about my Girlcation week so that I can continue to tell other stories about my summer.

What happened after my last post about Girlcation, which was written way back on June 21st?

Well, to sum up, I spent time that week talking to Liz (my sister and visitor who is featured heavily in my previous Girlcation post), petting Demi, visiting the YMCA, eating out and catching up with Liz and other friends, sitting on my porch reading, and watching shows that I wanted to watch.

If last year’s Girlcation (last year’s post here) was about taking daytrips and exploring the local area, this year’s Girlcation was centered heavily around relaxing and reconnecting.

My sister Liz stayed at my house from Saturday evening (while the boys were still here) till Wednesday morning. Here is Part 1 of Girlcation which dives into Saturday night and Sunday.

The weather was rainy on Monday and Tuesday, so we engaged in inside activities. On Monday, I took Liz to my YMCA where she could work out as my guest. We probably stayed longer than I usually stay there, I felt like I could luxuriate more on this visit because I had nothing that really needed to get done at home. Later that day, Liz took me out for Thai food that evening for dinner and afterwards we browsed the nearby Barnes and Noble. We may also have watched Brooke Shield and Cary Elwes movie A Castle for Christmas on Netflix that evening (Five stars in my humble opinion).

On Tuesday, I went back to the YMCA and Liz and Marnie ran some errands. That afternoon we went to the movie theater to see Scary Movie 6. It was my idea to see a movie and after I read Liz the list of movies that were playing, she thought about it (overnight) and concluded that she would be interested in seeing Scary Movie 6.

You see, I have said to many people that my favorite movie is Scary Movie 2. I used to love that movie and watch it repeatedly. My friend Dale introduced me to it, and we used to quote it all the time. So, I was excited to see Scary Movie 6 when I heard that it was coming out last month.

It turned out that Scary Movie 6 had some jokes that I did not really get because I am not a huge horror movie fan, but I do like low-brow comedy and movies The Naked Gun and Airplane! and I got at least one of those belly-laughs during the movie. My recommendation, if you go to the movies to see it, is go to see it on a bargain night or a manatee. It is funny and enjoyable, but not funny enough to pay full price to see it. I do always enjoy a trip to the movies though. I love seeing previews and eating popcorn.

Liz left for her home on Wednesday morning. I ended up spending most of the day hanging out on my front porch with Demi reading The Long Game by Rachel Reid. The Long Game is the sequel to Heated Rivalry, which I already read.

I am kind of into this series right now.

I spent time on Thursday decluttering and watching Heated Rivalry, the television show on HBO. Then I had a dinner date at a restaurant with two lady friends. It was fun to go out and catch up.

On Friday, I continued my house cleaning tasks, and, in the afternoon, I visited Dorney Park by myself. I spent a few hours visiting the water park and hanging out in the Runaway River, a lazy-river type attraction. I brought my refillable cup and enjoyed unlimited refills at the soda fountain. I ended up getting dinner at Dorney Park since my family would not be home that evening until late.

It was great to reunite with my family on Friday night and learn about their adventures on Saturday. Everyone needed a day of sleeping in and relaxing after a hard week of camp.

On Sunday, I had one last addendum to my week of relaxing and reconnecting. I drove to the Scranton area to have brunch with my dear friend, Dale. We have been friends for almost 24 years! He lives in New York state and if we are lucky, we get to see each other once a year these days. So, this was a very special visit! After brunch we took a walk in a nearby park and snapped this selfie.

Camp is over and now we are back to our July life which includes summer school for Nugget and pool visits in the afternoon.

Happy 4th of July weekend. I hope that you are having a good one!
