This summer I have been trying to read classic books from authors who I have never read before. One of the things that I have noticed about reading classic authors is that on Libby (the library app that I use for free from my library), many classic books are easy to get because there might be less immediate interest in them from other readers (competition).
On feature that I have discovered about reading books published a long time ago is that you can purchase them very cheaply for the Kindle (like 65 cents for A Study in Scarlett). Additionally, it also came with free audiobook reading so I could listen some of the time and read it other times (which I love to do).
I obtained In Cold Blood from my library’s Libby collection, and it also came with the audiobook (without me having to request it separately) and the narrator is excellent!
I have been drawn to some of these authors because of their country of origin. I would like to travel to the UK someday and it has made me interested in reading authors who lived their lives there like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie
I am currently reading In Cold Blood by Truman Capote because it is my book club’s selection for July. I am about 75% of the way through it. I did not think that I liked the true crime genre. I still find that it makes me uncomfortable in some places, but I am happier now that I am in a place where the perpetrators have been taken into police custody.
I am still going back and looking at the Heated Rivalry books that I am already finished because those seem to be my obsession of the moment.
Here is what I Have Read This Summer
Sherlock Holms: Study in Scarlett by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
In Cold Blood By Truman Capote
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
Heated Rivelry Books (Heated Rivelry and The Long Game) by Rachel Reid
Reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince with Nugget at bedtime
Note: I have mostly stayed on pace to reach my 40 book goal for 2026. But I way choose some children’s or young adult novels for my community college class to read soon so that I stay on track (and so I do a better job at my job).
Mr. Katie and I started Watching Braveheart the movie because I never watched it before.
